More than 200 senior leaders and members of the Brown University community will be on campus Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22-24, for events celebrating the launch of the largest comprehensive campaign in the University’s history.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — This weekend, Brown University will embark on the largest comprehensive campaign in its history, a fundraising campaign to realize the University’s strategic vision of advancing knowledge to help the community, nation, and world meet 21st-century challenges.

The campaign’s theme and overall fundraising goal will be announced during a launch celebration for invited guests Friday evening, Oct. 23, 2015, on Pembroke Field. More than 200 senior leaders and invited guests from the University community will attend the event.

Other events will be part of the University’s celebration before and after the Friday launch.

Events scheduled for launch weekend

Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5:45 p.m. on Manning Walk
Groundbreaking for the School of Engineering’s new building

Chancellor Thomas J. Tisch will welcome University officials and guests at the site of the new engineering building on Manning Walk, west of Brook Street. President Christina Paxson and Dean of Engineering Lawrence Larson will make brief remarks. Sangeeta Bhatia, cancer researcher, MIT professor, and biotech entrepreneur, will deliver the keynote address. Bhatia is a 1990 Brown graduate and current member of the University’s Board of Trustees. A reception follows in the Barus and Holley lobby.

Celebration: Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics

ICERM, one of eight mathematics institutes across the country sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the only one in New England, was established in 2010 with a five-year, $15.5-million grant. It recently received a five-year renewal grant from the NSF. Chancellor Tisch, President Paxson, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, ICERM leaders, and guests will celebrate ICERM’s achievements and salute its future.

Friday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m. on Pembroke Field
Launch celebration for the comprehensive campaign

Members of the Corporation, University officials, alumni leaders, and other invited guests will gather on Pembroke Field for brief presentations by faculty researchers, performances by Brown students, and a celebratory dinner. Chancellor Tisch will introduce campaign co-chairs, President Paxson will deliver remarks about the campaign, and the premiere showing of a campaign video will announce the theme and goals of the campaign.
