Ravi Pendse, Brown University’s chief information officer, will present testimony Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, to the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Ravi Pendse, chief information officer at Brown University, will present testimony on February 5 to the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security. The hearing, titled “Getting it Right on Data Breach and Notification Legislation in the 114th Congress” will begin at 10:00 AM in Washington D.C. and will be webcast live on the Senate Commerce Committee website.

Others testifying at the hearing will be:

  • Cheri F. McGuire, vice president for global government affairs and cybersecurity policy, Symantec Corporation;
  • Mallory Duncan, senior vice president and general counsel, National Retail Federation;
  • Yael Weinman, vice president for global privacy and general counsel, Information Technology Industry Council;
  • Doug Johnson, senior vice president and senior adviser for risk management policy, American Bankers Association;
  • Lisa Madigan, attorney general, State of Illinois.

“Data security is an increasingly important topic to Americans,” said Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), who convened the hearing. “In light of recent data breaches, consumers and companies have called for policy changes in this area. This hearing will help the Committee gain a better understanding of how to develop a clear and consistent national data breach notification standard that will help both companies and consumers when they face data security challenges.”
