The award-winning documentary Life According to Sam, which features a married couple of Brown University medical professors who are leading research to save their son and all other children with the rare disease Progeria, will air on HBO in October. But before that, it will screen in Providence this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Rhode Island International Film Festival at the Paff Theater on Washington Street. At age 2, Sam Berns was diagnosed with progeria, the progressive and fatal aging disorder. His parents, Drs. Leslie Gordon and Scott Berns, were told that there was no treatment. Unwilling to accept that there was nothing they could do, they set out to save Sam and all the other children with the disease by co-founding the Progeria Research Foundation.
