The U.S. Supreme Court today returned the Fisher v University of Texas case to the lower courts for further review.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University President Christina Paxson issued the following statement about today’s Supreme Court action in Fisher v University of Texas:

Brown’s longstanding commitment to diversity remains unchanged. We believe that diversity is essential to our efforts to build an academic community that is inclusive of many cultures and peoples, encourages broad consideration of issues, and promotes a greater understanding of the world we live in. Exposure to a broad range of perspectives, views, and outlooks is essential to fostering both breadth and depth in intellectual endeavors and has benefits for students, faculty, staff, and society. We are gratified that today’s Supreme Court action does not affect the University’s capacity to recruit, admit, or engage a diverse, broadly representative community of learners.
