Brown addiction researchers played major roles in the creation of a new book that can help colleges take action on excessive student drinking and drug use. Nancy Barnett associate professor (research) of public health, was one of three editors of the book, College Student Alcohol Abuse: A Guide to Assessment, Intervention, and Prevention, published by Wiley. Brown colleagues Brian Borsari, Kate Carey, and Nadine Mastroleo each authored chapters. Barnett said the book “presents the leading theories used to conceptualize the phenomena of college student alcohol use and provides an overview of the epidemiology of student drug use, including illicit drugs and nonmedical use of prescription drugs. By providing the most recent empirical evidence for effective prevention and intervention strategies, the book will give college administrators, counselors, and health educators the information they need to address alcohol use on their campuses.”
