On Monday evening, July 23, 2012, a female teenage participant in a summer fencing camp being held on the Brown University campus reported to her counselor an incident of inappropriate sexual conduct by a visiting coach. Deans from the Office of Campus Life and Student Services were notified and met with the camper immediately to offer counseling and support. They also notified the camper’s parents.
Brown University Police detained the visiting coach and transferred him to the custody of Providence Police detectives for arraignment on a charge of second-degree sexual assault. The University has issued a notice of trespass, prohibiting the visiting coach from returning to the campus during the period of investigation.
Parents of fencing camp participants have been notified and the University has offered counseling and support for fencing camp participants.
