Dylan Field, a Brown senior, is one of 20 young people to receive a “20 Under 20” grant from PayPal founder Peter Thiel. The idea, according to a report in the Petaluma (Calif.) Argus-Courier, is to give college-age people a chance to develop their ideas and perhaps start businesses, spending money on development and startup rather than on tuition. Field, a computer science-mathematics concentrator at Brown, will receive $100,000 on the condition that he not attend school for two years. He has arranged for a leave from Brown in order to develop ideas that will improve creative tools on computers.
