Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim is President Obama’s nominee to lead the World Bank, a 187-nation organization that focuses on fighting poverty and promoting development. A 1982 Brown graduate and 2009 recipient of honorary Doctor of Medical Science degree, Kim, a Korean-born physician, is widely recognized as a global health expert for his pioneering work in advancing treatment of HIV, AIDS, and tuberculosis. The actual selection of the new leader will take place next month by a vote of the World Bank’s 25-member executive board. Kim is expected to travel the globe on a listening tour in anticipation of the formal vote.
