Brown University composer and performer Joseph “Butch” Rovan’s installation, Let us imagine a straight line, is being featured at the 14th WRO Media Art Biennale in Poland through Sunday, June 19, 2011. The interactive work, exploring movement, motion, philosophy, and science through image, text, and sound, was one of 70 selected from more than 2,400 entries. Rovan says it is inspired by two great minds of late 19th-century France — Etienne-Jules Marey and Henri Bergson — and their respective visions of motion and time. The WRO Media Art Biennale is the leading forum for new media art in Poland and Central Europe. Since its inception in December 1989, WRO has been devoted to art forms using contemporary means of creation and communication, presenting the work of highly renowned artists as well as debuts by young newcomers.
