Brown's Japanese Cultural Association (JCA) will donate $14,500 to two organizations providing disaster relief efforts to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Since the disaster struck on March 11, 2011, the JCA and other University groups have held a series of fund-raising and awareness activities on campus, including donation drives, a vigil, sessions on folding origami cranes for peace and remembrance, a teach-in, and a benefit concert. The $14,500 in funds will be given to the Japanese Red Cross and Architecture for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that is collaborating with local design and construction professionals to reconstruct the northern Japan region.
