Dmitry Fedosov, lead author on a study that looked at how red blood cells are infected by a malarial parasite that attacks the brain, was named the 2011 recipient of the American Physical Society's Nicholas Metropolis Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Work in Computational Physics. Fedosov’s research involves multiscale modeling of blood flow and polymer suspensions. He received his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Brown in May 2010.
