New Taubman poll results today at noon

Brown University will release the results today of two new public opinion surveys conducted by the Taubman Center for Public Policy. A news release summarizing survey results will be posted at 12 p.m.

Dennery to lead pediatrics at Lifespan, Brown

Dr. Phyllis Dennery, a specialist in neonatal care and research, will lead pediatrics at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in the Lifespan health system and in The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She arrives from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia next April.

Brown Corporation accepts $121 million in new gifts

At its regular October meeting the governing body of Brown University formally accepted gifts totaling more than $121 million in support of financial aid, internships, and academic priorities. The Brown Corporation also engaged new trustees and established endowed chairs.

Watson Institute to host faculty discussion in Chicago

Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies will host a panel discussion featuring research that addresses contemporary world challenges on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the University Club of Chicago. Watson Insitute director Richard Locke will moderate the discussion with Brown faculty. The Chicago visit is part of Brown’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Warren Simmons to step down as Annenberg director

After 16 years as executive director of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, Warren Simmons will step down on June 30, 2015, at the end of the current academic year. Simmons will continue his work on national school reform efforts and will remain affiliated with the Annenberg Institute as a senior fellow.
U.S. Centers for AIDS Research

Brown to host national HIV scientific symposium Nov. 6

Speakers representing the nation’s 19 Centers for AIDS Research will come to Brown University Nov. 6 to present their original research on the biology, medicine, and public health of the epidemic. The daylong National Science Symposium begins at 8 a.m. in Sayles Hall.

Orchestra to perform at Carnegie Hall

The Brown University Orchestra will travel to New York City to perform a concert at Carnegie Hall on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014. The orchestra will present a campus preview of that concert on Friday, Oct. 10, in Sayles Hall at 8 p.m.

Brown to host Providence mayoral debate

Brown University’s A. Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions will host a debate among the candidates running for mayor of Providence on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at 7 p.m. The debate will take place in Salomon Center for Teaching, De Ciccio Family Auditorium, and will include Jorge Elorza, Vincent “Buddy” Cianci, and Daniel Harrop.
