At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos shook the world when they gave Black Power salutes at their medal ceremony while the National Anthem played. From the producers of "Bannister: Everest on the Track," called one of the best sports documentaries of all time by IndieWire, now comes a film about what led Smith and Carlos to make such a bold gesture 50 years ago. A screening of “The Stand” will be followed by a Q&A and informal discussion on race, activism and sports. George Houston Bass Performing Arts Space, Churchill House, 155 Angell Street.
