Brown University and the Edgewood Yacht Club have reached an agreement on the construction of a new facility to be shared by the Edgewood Yacht Club, the Brown University Yacht Club, and the Brown sailing team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University and the Edgewood Yacht Club have reached agreement on the construction of a new facility. The Brown sailing team had used the Edgewood Yacht Club for practice and competition from 1999 until it was destroyed by fire in 2011.

The Brown Yacht Club, founded in 1896, and the sailing team will occupy the second floor of the new facility on Narragansett Bay, expected to be completed by mid-2016. The University’s new quarters will include a large viewing deck for spectators, a classroom, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and a coaches office — about 1,900 square feet in all.

The current sailing team is consistently ranked within the top 10 in the country, racing in the highly competitive New England District of College Sailing.
