MED International is a Brown University student-established nongovernmental organization that works with the ministry of health in Zanzibar, Tanzania, to arrange donations of and technical support and training for medical equipment. Earlier this month the group advanced to the Boston regional finals for the $1-million Hult Prize, a global social entrepreneurship competition. The five other regional competitions take place in San Francisco, London, Dubai, Shanghai, and Sao Paulo. As the group has advanced in the competition, it has also expanded its participation from engineering and computer science students via a recent partnership with the Brown University Biomedical Engineering Society.
