Palestinian leader and activist Hanan Ashrawi visited Brown University Sept. 25 and 26, 2013, for a lecture and discussion in the “Oslo is Dead; Long Live Oslo” series offered by the Program in Middles East Studies. Between events, Ashrawi sat down to talk with Middle East Studies Director Beshara Doumani; a two-part video of their discussion is now available. In part one of their conversation, Ashrawi discusses how the Israeli-Palestinian peace process has broken away from its intended goal in the 20 years since the signing of the Oslo Accords and points to some inherrent flaws in the original agreement. In part two, Asharawi talks about how her academic training has given her a sense of responsiblity for and engagement in the peace process, and the experience of being a woman involved in politics in the Middle East.
