B. Anthony Bogues, the Harmon Family Professor of Africana Studies and director for the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice (CSSJ), is in Europe to give three public lectures and seminars in the coming weeks. During this visit he will hold conversations with various groups and universities about international collaboration with the CSSJ. On Monday, June 10, Bogues will participate in a citywide forum in Nantes, France, on slavery and abolition and will deliver a keynote address at the Natural History Museum of Nantes on “Race and the Historical Politics of Slavery.” On June 20, Bogues will give a talk at the University of York in the United Kingdom on slavery, institutional memory, and writing the past for the Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past. Bogues will also visit University College London on June 19 to discuss “The Radical Caribbean Intellectual: From Toussaint L’Ouverture to Walter Rodney.” That talk will examine the Caribbean radical intellectual tradition within a framework of the complex history of thought inaugurated by colonial modernity.
