The state medical examiner has confirmed the death of Sunil Tripathi, a Brown philosophy student who was on an approved leave from the University. President Christina Paxson sent the following message to the campus community.

Members of the Brown Community,

It is with profound sadness that I write to share news that the state medical examiner has confirmed the death of Brown student Sunil Tripathi.

For more than a month our community has sought to support the Tripathi family in their courageous and tireless efforts to search for Sunil. We are grateful to the commitment of law enforcement during this time and to friends locally and globally who have contributed in myriad ways throughout the search. We extend our deepest condolences to Sunil’s family for their loss and for the immeasurable pain they have endured during this period.

Sunil grew up in Radnor, Pennsylvania. The brother of two Brown graduates, Sunil came to Brown as an undergraduate in 2008. He was a philosophy concentrator and accomplished saxophonist with a keen interest in music. He was known to be a serious, thoughtful, intellectually curious student and a brilliant writer. Sunil will be remembered by all who knew him for his gentle demeanor and generous spirit.

Sincerely,
Christina H. Paxson

The University is making counseling services available to the campus community and is planning a memorial service to honor Sunil’s life.
