During a three-week campus competition to reduce energy consumption, Brown University saved more than 9,000 kilowatt-hours of energy, reducing the amount of CO2 released by five tons. Slater Hall, the first-place winner of the Brown Unplugged: Do it in the Dark competition, reduced its energy consumption by 18 percent and kept 938 pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere. A dinner with Brown President Christina Paxson was held with the residents of Slater Hall, as part of their reward on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The competition, sponsored by the student group Brown EcoReps and the Department of Facilities Management, is now in its third year.
