The renovation of the Alpert Medical School’s education building at 222 Richmond St. included a wide array of environmental sustainability features that have now been recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council with a certification of LEED Gold. Among the sustainability practices and improvements to the former jewelry factory and office building were diverting demolition debris away from landfills and installing high efficiency windows, boilers, and chillers. Dr. Edward J. Wing, dean of medicine and biological sciences said, “We’re very proud that the building has achieved this high level of recognition for the many steps we took to make it sustainable as well as state-of-the-art for medical education and student life.”Read more
