Mark Zervas, assistant professor of biology in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry, did postdoctoral work at New York University and still has a strong connection to his colleagues there. NYU researchers now face a huge problem: Hurricane Sandy-related flooding in labs has destroyed an enormous amount of research work. Zervas has offered to house students and postdocs in Providence and to help replenish lost mouse lines. His colleague Gary Wessel has also offered to help a colleague. Some NYU professors are still not sure what help they need. “They’re still trying to assess their losses,” said Barry Connors, chair of neuroscience, who has also offered to help colleagues re-establish lost mice. “At this point [Tuesday, Nov. 6] they don’t even have NYU Internet back in their labs.”
