The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University has recently been recognized with two important honors. Annenberg Director Warren Simmons was appointed by the National Research Council (NRC) to serve on its Committee on Strengthening Science Education Through a Teacher Learning Continuum. He will join 13 other national education reform and teacher education experts at the committee’s first meeting Oct. 30-31, 2012, in Washington, D.C. Providence Mayor Angel Taveras’ Children and Youth Cabinet (CYC), a collaboration of public, private, and nonprofit leaders housed at the Annenberg Institute, was among 31 organizations from across the nation recognized as Together for Tomorrow Challenge winners for the 2012-13 school year. The CYC was recognized for its Innovation Zone Initiative’s plan to engage community partners in the work of improving attendance, behavior, coursework, and college access at the Juanita Sanchez Complex, Lillian Feinstein Elementary School at Sackett Street, and the Roger Williams Middle School.
