ASCD, a national educational leadership organization, has ranked Brown’s The Choices Program No. 1 on its list of “5 Top Resources for Aligning Your Social Studies Curricula to the Common Core.” The list is compiled to provide social studies teachers and supervisors across the country with tools to align their curricula with the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History and Social Studies by using student-driven lessons. ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) currently has 150,000 members in more than 145 countries that are professional educators from all levels and subject areas — superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members. The Choices Program is an educational outreach program of the Watson Institute for International Studies and Brown University Continuing Education. Through its curricular resources, professional development programs, and special projects, Choices reaches high school students and teachers in more than one-third of American high schools.
