More than 200 undergraduate students from Brown and other U.S. universities gathered in Sayles Hall for the 2012 Summer Research Symposium Aug. 2, 2012. The symposium is held each year as a way for students to showcase the work they have been doing this summer. More than half of the students presenting at the symposium were recipients of Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards (UTRAs), while others received funding from a variety of Brown-administered programs and fellowships. With Brown faculty serving as mentors, this year’s projects ranged from an investigation of the surface temperature in Narragansett Bay and a collection of oral histories from Providence’s Mashapaug Pond to those farther afield, including an exploration of rainwater optimization structures in Karala, India.
