Joseph (José) Calo, one of the founders of the chemical engineering program at Brown, has been named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society. Calo was honored for his contributions in chemical kinetics and transport phenomena, which have applications in fuel production and solving environmental problems. “Becoming a Fellow of the ACS is a recognition of a lifetime of technical contributions and service to the American Chemical Society,” said Larry Larson, dean of Brown’s School of Engineering. “Professor Calo’s contributions to Brown and to chemical engineering have been and continue to be extraordinary." Calo was one of 96 new fellows recognized at the society’s annual meeting, which was held August 20th in Philadelphia.
