Keisha-Khan Y. Perry, assistant professor of Africana studies, will lead the 2012 UNCF/ Mellon International Faculty Seminar taking place July 5-15, 2012, in Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil. The theme of this year's seminar, which brings together faculty from Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States and an international faculty from the United States and Brazil, is “Rights, Race and Rebellion.” Participants will examine black Brazilian culture and politics, specifically how black struggles for cultural recognition are linked to dismantling everyday and institutional forms of gendered and class-based racism and gaining access to vital material resources and why and how black women, who comprise the vast majority of poor workers, lead social movements.
