Karen Sibley, dean of continuing education at Brown, is president-elect of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) for 2012-13. UPCEA is the Washington D.C.-based association for universities engaged in professional, continuing, and online education, serving more than 350 institutions, including most of the leading public and private universities in North America. Sibley’s election comes at the conclusion of a 15-month process of planning, transition, and revitalization for UPCEA culminating in a new strategic plan, new bylaws, and new membership structure, unveiled in late March 2012. Sibley has served as an at-large member of UPCEA’s Board of Directors and has chaired a number of UPCEA’s cxommittees. She is past president of the North American Association of Summer Schools and the Association of University Summer Sessions.
