Twenty-five members of the Class of 2012 and three candidates for master’s degrees have been chosen to receive the 17th Annual Weston Fine Arts Awards, which recognize meritorious achievements in the performing and visual arts by graduating Brown students. To date, 442 students have been awarded $250,000 in prizes since the first awards in 1996. The awards are endowed by a bequest from William ’43 and Alethe ’41 Weston who were actively involved, as students, in performing and visual arts activities at Brown and in the Rhode Island arts community throughout their careers. The couple’s entire estate was left in care of a private trust to establish and fund the Weston Awards. Students are selected by their departments; the Weston program is administered by Brown’s Division of Advancement. Recipients receive prizes of between $500 and $1,000.
