PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — At noon on Aug. 15, the first day of instruction for the M.D. Class of 2015, the Warren Alpert Medical School will officially open its new medical education building at 222 Richmond St.

The 134,000-square-foot building, originally constructed as a jewelry factory, has been renovated to allow Brown to expand its medical class size to 120 and provides many state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, lab work and study. The $45 million renovation will also help accelerate the development of a “knowledge district” in the Jewelry District, provides several community enhancements, and will be submitted for LEED Gold certification for environmental sustainability.

Editors: This advisory is for planning purposes only. The University will distribute a news release on the day of the event. A media tour of the building with Dean Wing will begin at 11 a.m. Please contact David Orenstein, below, to reserve space on the tour. A multbox and media riser will be available for the ceremony.
