President Ruth J. Simmons and President Joseph J.Y. Sung of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) signed three memoranda of understanding on Aug. 23, 2011, making official the Brown Plus One degree program, and further strengthening the ties of the two universities through two additional agreements. The Brown Plus One program allows Brown students to spend one or two semesters of study at CUHK while completing their baccalaureate degrees at Brown and then devote an additional year of study abroad to earning a Master of Arts degree from CUHK. The two institutions will also take part in one-week faculty exchanges, as well as the Brown-CUHK Language Teaching Fellowship, which provides one graduate of CUHK’s Masters Program in Chinese Linguistics and Language Acquisition a two-year professional development teaching internship hosted by Brown’s East Asian Studies Department.
