Erica Larschan, assistant professor of biology in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry, is one of 22 young biology researchers nationwide to be named a Pew Biomedical Scholar, an award that comes with a grant of $240,000 during the next four years. The Pew Charitable Trusts offers the grants to “outstanding individuals who are in their first few years of their appointment at the assistant professor level.” Larschan, who studies gene regulation said, “The Pew Biomedical Scholars award will allow me to pursue fundamentally new directions with my research such as addressing the key biological question of how proteins identify their targets within the nucleus of every cell. In addition, the Pew Biomedical Scholars program will allow me to interact scientifically with some of the most innovative new investigators nationwide.”
