On Friday, April 22 – Earth Day – the Providence Parks Department delivered about 5 cubic yards of “Grade A” compost to the Brown University Football Stadium on Elmgrove Avenue for community members to take away, compliments of the City. The morning found a busy, cheerful group of people chatting, shoveling, and sharing stories about their gardens as many Providence residents showed up with shovels and containers to scoop up and bring home the nutrient-rich soil. Some folks brought containers to share. The free compost was made possible in partnership with Brown University and Rhode Island Resource Recovery.
