Brown University will honor members of the Brown and Rhode Island communities who have served the nation in the U.S. military during Veterans Day ceremonies, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. The ceremony will include remarks by U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University will observe Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, with a procession and wreath-laying ceremony. Brown University Provost David Kertzer, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, and others will speak at the event.

Community and student veterans, ceremony participants, and guests will gather at the flagpole on the College Green at noon. The procession, led by the Providence College ROTC Honor Guard, will begin at 12:30 p.m. and travel to Lincoln Field.

In addition to remarks by Kertzer, Reed, and Whitehouse, University Chaplain Janet Cooper Nelson, student veteran Chaney Harrison, and Elaine Zimmer Davis, the wife of Jerry Zimmer, a 1966 Brown graduate who was killed in Vietnam, will speak during the ceremony. The event will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony at Soldiers Arch to honor those who have served, followed by a reception on Lincoln Field.

The event is organized by Brown University Student Veterans Society, the Office of the Dean of the College, and the Office of Campus Life and Student Services.
