<p>Baxter, PR2, quadcopters and other robots and robotic devices will demonstrate their skills at a Robot Block Party Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center at Brown University. The activities, free and open to the public, mark the start of National Robotics Week.</p>

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University’s Humanity Centered Robotics Initiative and the Rhode Island School of the Future will kick off National Robotics Week with a Robot Block Party on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event — free, kid-friendly, and open to the public — will feature robot demonstrations and exhibits from universities, industry, community organizations, and school groups from around the state. Included among the exhibitions will be the PR2 and Baxter robots, quadrotor drones, and telepresence devices used at Brown University; autonomous watercraft from the University of Rhode Island; and robotic technologies from Roger Williams and Salve Regina Universities.

The event marks the start of National Robotics Week, April 5 to 13, 2014.

Demonstrations and exhibits will showcase how robots are used in research, manufacturing, and education in Rhode Island.
Elementary and middle school students will participate in a Robot Parade at Noon, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:15 p.m.
Students will exhibit chain reaction machines (Rube Goldberg-esque machines that are powered by the pull of a string), at 11:45 a.m., 12:30, 1, 2 and 3:30 p.m.
