The Leadership Alliance was recently named the recipient of two grants. The first, a $500,000 award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to fund the Leadership Alliance Mellon Inititive (LAMI), supports summer research experiences for women and minority undergraduates interested in pursuing doctoral-level training in the humanities and the humanistic social sciences. The second grant was a $150,000 National Science Foundation award to fund the planning of a new Leadership Alliance program that will work to increase the number of graduate and postdoctoral students entering into one of the STEM disciplines. The Leadership Alliance is an academic consortium of institutions of higher learning that seeks to develop underrepresented students into professionals in academia, business, and the public sector. A core activity of the Leadership Alliance is mentoring those students across each critical transtition along the academic pathway. Brown has served as the Alliance’s administrative home since 1992.
