PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The Filipino Alliance at Brown University will host a benefit concert to raise funds for the victims of the typhoon that struck the Philippines on Nov. 7. “Bayanihan” will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. in List Art Center, Room 120. The event is open to the public.

The concert will include performances by several Brown student groups. Admission is a $5 donation. Brown President Christina Paxson will match the first $2,500 collected.

Bayanihan roughly translates to “being a nation together’ or “being heroes for one another,” the Filipino spirit of solidarity that keeps one’s community strong. Bayanihan is part of a global series of “BangonPH” events organized on and around November 23, the global day of solidarity and awareness for survivors of recent natural disasters in the Philippines. Events and fundraisers are currently being organized in Manila, Cebu, Davao, London, Melbourne, San Francisco, New York City, Paris, and New Zealand.

More information about the concert at Brown can be found on the event’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/228177180691928/.
