“Trials, Tragedy & Resilience” is an exhibit recognizing and celebrating Montserrat’s rich cultural heritage on the 250th anniversary of its St. Patrick’s Day slave uprising. Montserrat, a small island and British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, has long been a center of cultural diversity and tension and has in the last 20 years been radically transformed by its active volcano. The histories presented here commemorate the resilience Montserratians have displayed over time in their responses to difficult conditions imposed by slavery, colonialism, resource scarcity and catastrophic natural disasters.
