Middle East Studies presents a screening of "Araf" ("Somewhere in Between" in Turkish), a film about two people waiting for an opportunity to escape their monotonous lives. In a naive attempt to escape the life her strict mother has envisioned for her, Zehra becomes fascinated with a truck driver named Mahur despite the love interest from fellow restaurant worker Olgun. Despite feeling like they are in a state of limbo and living in a city with bleak economic opportunities, the protagonists eventually experience a bittersweet moment that leads to suffering and a finale where they must say goodbye to their childhoods in order to move forward. Organized by Visiting Scholar in Middle East Studies Pelin Kadercan and Middle East Studies, the screening will be presented in Turkish with English subtitles. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, 111 Thayer St.
