America is in a period of economic and geopolitical decline, driven by attitudes that have been emerging since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Financial Times columnist Edward Luce wrote in his 2012 book "The Retreat of Western Liberalism." In a book discussion moderated by Brown economist Mark Blyth, Luce will draw ideas from his book to discuss the consequences of Trump's presidency and offer his thoughts on how liberals might take on the inevitable challenges that await them. A graduate of Oxford University in politics, philosophy, and economics, Luce has worked as the South Asia bureau chief for the Financial Times. Hosted by the Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy, the discussion is part of the Meet the Author series that aims to get writers to talk about their recently published works. A book signing and reception will follow. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Joukowsky Forum, 111 Thayer St.
