The Brown University Library and the Department of Music present "Bamboula! Black Music Before the Blues: A musical journey with pianist John Davis '79." Drawing from materials on display in the related exhibition at the John Hay Library, Brown alumnus John Davis will give a multi-media concert performance with special guests from student groups Harmonizing Grace and Old-Time String Band. The 19th to early 20th-century books, sheet music and ephemera included in the exhibition are drawn primarily from Davis' personal collection and the holdings of the Brown University Library. Davis’ archive of rare 19th-century printed African Americana music is the cornerstone of his career as a concert pianist devoted to works influenced by black culture of the American South. Free and open to the public, the event begins at 7 p.m. in the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, Martinos Auditorium, 154 Angell St.
