Middle East Studies presents two film screenings as part of the 1948-Once Upon a Palestine film series, curated by Ariella Azoulay, assistant professor of comparative literature and modern culture and media. The series will include a screening of Khirbat’ Khize (1978), directed by Ram Loevy, and al-Midya (2014), directed by Dani Gal. Khirbat’ Khize tells the story of a fictional Arabic village towards the end of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and the expulsion of its Palestinian inhabitants by Israeli soldiers. The second film in the series, al-Midya, focuses on the controversies surrounding Khirbat’ Khize. A discussion will follow the screenings. Co-sponsored by the Department of Modern Culture and Media, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Watson Institute for International Studies, Joukowsky Forum, 111 Thayer St.
