CHICAGO [Brown University] — Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies will host a faculty presentation of research that addresses contemporary world challenges on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at 4:30 p.m. at the University Club of Chicago. The Chicago visit celebrates the 250th anniversary of the founding of Brown University.
The presentation — “Improving the World Through Research, Policy, and Engagement” — will include Melani Cammett, associate professor of political science; Glenn Loury, the Merton P. Stoltz Professor of the Social Sciences and professor of economics; and Ed Steinfeld, the Dean’s Professor of China Studies and director of Brown’s China Initiative.
Brown University President Christina Paxson will deliver opening remarks and Richard Locke, director of the Watson Institute, will moderate the discussion.
Cammett, an expert in Middle East politics and social welfare, will discuss the political economy of the Arab Uprising; Loury, a noted economist, will speak about the public policy dimension of incarceration in the United States; and Steinfeld will address what the United States can learn from China’s energy research.
