 AAMC Rally for Medical Research

Brown delegation visits the Hill

A team of four Brown-affiliated faculty members and students joined colleagues from around the country on Capitol Hill Sept. 18 as part of the Association of American Medical College’s Rally for Medical Research. Faculty members Jim Padbury and Jacquelyn Schell, postdoctoral scholar Dio Garcia, and medical student Arkady Rasin visited with Rhode Island’s members of Congress to tell them about their work in the lab and discuss the importance of supporting continued national funding for medical research. “The congressmen and senators were very receptive to our message,” Rasin said. “It is important to do this because, not only is NIH funding a vehicle for researchers all around the country, but the outcomes of this research benefit the entirety of America and the world. ... Research is an expression of humanity’s innate curiosity and constant need for discovery and advancement.”
