A collective impact on absenteeism

Rebecca Boxx, principal associate at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, and director of the Providence Mayor's Children and Youth Cabinet (CYC), has authored a commentary on the problem of chronic school absenteeism and how shared ownership of the problem by leaders from the public health sector, municipal government, community-based organizations, the school district, youth organizations, and the parent community, can effectively address it. In an accompanying video, Boxx discusses the work that the Cabinet has done to combat absenteeism and what remains to be done. The CYC, housed at the Annenberg Institute, is a consortium of more than 50 agencies and institutions dedicated to improving results for Providence’s children and youth from cradle to career.
