PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The Cohen Gallery at the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts presents “Freedom,” an exhibition by The Bruce High Quality Foundation (BHQF). “Freedom” will run from Thursday, May 2, to Monday, June 3, 2013.

“Freedom” will include two-dimensional, three-dimensional and mixed media works by the BHQF selected from a private collection and exhibited courtesy of the Cohen Gallery. The exhibition will include a re-make of the limousine used in the BHQF’s month-long “Teach 4 Amerika” tour in 2011 in which they visited art schools around the country questioning the future of arts education.

The BHQF creates installations, videos, paintings, sculptures, performances, and institutions that reveal their collective creative agency within the seemingly monolithic forces of art and social history.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Richard Fishman, Joachim Pissarro, Sandy Heller, and BHQF.

In June 2013, a retrospective of BHQF’s work will open at The Brooklyn Museum, titled “Ode to Joy, 2001-2013.” Recent solo exhibitions include “The Transubstantial Bruce” at Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, 2013; “Art History with Labor” at the Lever House Art Collection, New York, 2012; “The Raft of the Medusa / Le Radeau de la Méduse” at Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, Zurich, 2012; “Argumenta” at the Venice Biennale, 2011; “The Retrospective: 2001-2010” at Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, Zurich, 2010; and “Happy Endings” during Art Basel Miami Beach, 2009. In 2010, BHQF was included in “Greater New York” at MoMA PS1, and in the Whitney Biennial, while simultaneously hosting “Brucennial,” an invitational exhibition that included more than 300 artists. In 2012, BHQF presented the most extensive “Brucennial” to date, featuring more than 450 artists.

BHQF founded The Bruce High Quality Foundation University in downtown Manhattan in 2009, a learning experiment that proposes an alternative to the traditional art school format.
