A central enzyme, PP2A, suppresses the activity of a protein called ACS6, which is necessary to produce ethylene. Alison DeLong and graduate student Kyle Skottke found plants deficient for PP2A cannot inhibit ACS6, which means more ethylene and shorter shoots.
