Past and future changes in the development of the China will be discussed in a daylong conference that brings together many of the nation's leaders in urbanization. Contemporary urban conditions in modern day China are largely due to the country's 20th century shift to a centrally planned economy. The privitization of industries and the recruitment of a labor force from the countryside has led to an increase in class inequality and migrant worker discrimination. This Year of China event begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Joukowsky Forum, Watson Institute. http://www.watsoninstitute.org/
