The National Science Foundation has awarded Brown a $15.5M grant to establish the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM). Four Brown faculty provide a context for this exceptional award by reflecting on the history, the unique culture and the dynamic research directions of mathematics at Brown. Panelists include Jill Pipher, professor of mathematics and director of ICERM; David Mumford, professor emeritus of applied mathematics and candidate for an honorary degree; Bjorn Sandstede, professor of applied mathematics and associate director of ICERM; Jeffrey Hoffstein, professor and chair of mathematics and associate director of ICERM.
