PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Keisha-Khan Perry, associate professor of Africana studies, has been awarded the Gloria E. Anzaldúa book prize for 2014 for her book, Black Women Against the Land Grab: The Fight for Racial Justice in Brazil.

The prize, awarded by the National Women’s Studies Association, is given each year for groundbreaking scholarship in women’s studies that makes significant multicultural feminist contributions to women of color/transnational scholarship. Perry will be recognized for the award at the National Women’s Studies Association annual conference, which takes place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in November.

Perry’s book explores how black women’s views on development have radicalized local communities to demand justice and social change with a focus on the Gamboa de Baixo neighborhood in the city center of Salvador, Brazil.
