PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The Office of College Admission at Brown University is making official offers of admission to 2,649 applicants for the Class of 2017. Those offers, posted online at the University’s admissions website after 5 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 28, 2013, represent 9.2 percent of applicants from a total pool of 28,919.

“We are grateful to the nearly 29,000 students who gave us the opportunity and the privilege of learning so much about them and their remarkable accomplishments,” said James Miller, dean of admission. “The Class of 2017 has the potential to be among the most accomplished in Brown’s history.”

This year’s admitted class is the most diverse in Brown’s history, with 45 percent students of color, defined as students who self-identify as African American, Latino, Native American or Asian. Additionally, of those admitted, 17.5 percent represent the first generation in their families to go to college, another record number for the University.

“I know first-hand how all-consuming the application and admission cycle can be for students and their families,” said Brown President Christina Paxson. “The prospect of eager, ever more accomplished students makes this an exciting time for the University as well. I congratulate the 2,649 potential members of the Class of 2017 and look forward to meeting the Class of 2017 this fall.”
